Halloween and History at the Haliburton Highlands Museum!

October 25, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Kick off your Halloween celebrations at the Haliburton Highlands Museum! Delve into the origins of our modern Halloween celebrations with museum director Kate Butler and learn about the Celtic roots of many of our favourite customs. Halloween has its roots in Samhain, one of the Celtic “quarter days” when the barriers between this world and the spirit world were believed to be very thin. Find out why we carve jack o’lanterns, disguise ourselves and trick or treat! Following Kate’s talk, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the museum’s historic buildings under the cover of darkness and hear some local ghost stories…including ones pertaining to the museum itself!
